Aid In Milan gearing up to help those in need this holiday season

Aid in Milan will once again be providing help with clothing, gifts and non-perishable foods  for residents during the holiday season, Director Nina Pemberton said.   Pemberton is urging residents that need help and those looking to donate to their many programs notify the center early.  “A lot of coordination is required to make sure everyone receives the specific help they need,” Pemberton said.

The center accepts donations from individuals, school and community groups, local businesses, churches, organizations and clubs to help as many as possible to have a hearty meal on the table and presents under the Christmas tree Pemberton said.

Their Adopt-A-Family program is designed to help families that are supported on a monthly basis.  The nice thing about this program, Pemberton said, is it gives children in a family an opportunity to make a holiday gift “wish list”.   Any size donation is accepted.  Family sizes vary so there is opportunity to give a lot or a little, Pemberton said.  This program has been supported regularly by the Milan Marble United Methodist Church and The Milan Free Methodist church.

The Milan Rotary Club supplies the center with Christmas boxes.  The boxes are filled with canned goods, hams, fresh fruits and vegetables and other food items such as peanut butter, laundry soap and shampoo. The club helped 24 families last year with boxed items.

We will have a table with items suitable for all ages should someone find a need for a gift Pemberton said.  We realize there are different needs at this time of the year she said.

Pemberton said none of this would be possible without the generosity of the community.  Economic times are still bad and demand is great.  She said the center is appreciative and grateful to the Milan community.

People just need to come in, “Everyone gets something,” Pemberton said.
