Downtown trick-or-treat

16th Annual Downtown Merchant’s Trick or Treat Hour

Sixteen years ago, The Milan D.D.A. and Milan Area Chamber of Commerce began the Annual Milan Downtown Merchant’s Trick or Treat Hour.  Weather depending, the popular  event draws between 700 and 1000 children to the downtown area.   Always held the Friday prior to Halloween, this year’s event takes place October 25th from 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.

The Milan Baptist Church, Milan Area Chamber Members, are holding their Trunk or Treat in the church  parking lot in conjunction with the Downtown Merchant’s Event.   They will continue with a Harvest Party in their Family Center from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m, following the downtown event.  Trunk or Treater’s are encourage to attend.

Participating Downtown Merchants will display an orange flyer in their storefront window.

Milan Businesses located outside of the immediate downtown area,  are invited to come to the downtown area to pass out candy, stationed along Tolan St and in front of the Old Danube Inn Parking Lot.  Organized this way to keep children in a more contained area, where our local police force provide safe crossing of streets with their assistance.

Anonymous judges will once again be looking closely at business participation.  Businesses will be judged on three categories:  Best decorated window,  Scariest Costume, and Funniest Costume.  Businesses will be honored at a public function to be announced.

Although the Milan Police presence will be very visible, we  ask parents to accompany children to assure their safety in crossing the streets.

A Huge thank you to each of our participating merchants, as well as to our City, for closure of Tolan St. and to our Police Department for providing officers, assisting in safer street crossing during the event. We aren’t sure who enjoys it more;  the merchants or the kids;  we just know there is lots of smiling faces,  laughter and ooh’s and aah’s, as the little one’s parade the street in their costumes!

The Annual Door to Door Trick or Treat will take place on Halloween night, October 31, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  A free candy inspection will be held at Arby’s of Milan, conducted by the Milan Police Department from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. that evening only.
