MILAN MIDDLE READY TO DIVE IN

By Balinda Zimmerman

Milan Middle school swimmers met in the cafeteria of the Middle School on Jan 30, 2014 for dinner and celebration before heading to the MISCA State Swim meet on Jan 31st and Feb 1st. The team led by Coach Kerry Frame is sending 10 swimmers and 2 divers to the MISCA State Meet at Mason High School in Mason, Michigan (near Lansing).  Coach Frame explained that she is very proud of the team this year and that the kids are a “very dedicated group of kids who have worked very hard.” She went on to say that the team has “some pretty big races coming up and the relays should be really exciting.”

Going into the competition several individual swimmers and teams are presently placed in high Seeds. Madelyn Cislo is seeded in first place for the 100 and 200 Free going into the meet. Max Stafford is seeded in 2nd for the Boys 100 and 200 free, and the Girls 200 and 400 Relay teams are seeded in 2nd place.  Diving for Milan is Emily Runkel and Mackenzie Crawford, both 7th graders.  Emily currently holds 15th place overall in diving and Mackenzie holds the FIRST PLACE SPOT.  It would sure be nice to have a first place diver in both female spots for Milan High School and Middle school.

The students shared with me some of their excitement as they were explaining their seeds for the meet.  As with other Milan teams this year, one only has to pay attention to see that Coach Frame has a lot of faith in her team, and some hard earned respect for their dedication. Team captains this year are Haylie Ritchie, Max Stafford and Madelyn Cislo, all top swimmers and strong leaders who are planning on swimming for years to come.
