Roast Beef dinner raises funds

Off of Willis Rd. at the corner of Whittaker Rd. in August Township, miles from a city, you’ll find the sprawling complex of Lincoln Consolidated School District and the “home” of the Lincoln Golden Ages Seniors.  They were established in 1984 and their members are from 5 townships. Even though they are sponsored by Lincoln Board of Education the Lincoln Golden Ages Seniors pay all their own expenses from their dues and fundraising projects.

February 28 people were lined up to enter their Roast Beef Dinner Fundraiser served at the Lincoln High School East Cafeteria.  There was a silent auction, 50/50, and live entertainment provided by Steve Somers and his wife Valerie Barrymore.  Mr. John McGehee was the “roving” Master of Ceremony welcoming everyone and keeping them informed.  Many of the seniors, dressed in their Golden Ages vest, were on hand also greeting everyone and serving the food.  Plenty of food was available and the event was very well organized.  Some stayed and visited while they ate and others picked up “carry out boxes”.  All the food for the dinner was donated which made this event even more successful as a fundraiser.

Lincoln Golden Ages Seniors are located at 8970 Whittaker Rd. in Ypsilanti, Michigan.  Entry way is the west door entrance of Brick Elementary,   they are open Tuesday-Friday.  Membership dues are $15 for the year and a hot lunch program is offered four days a week for a nominal fee.  The director, since September 2013, is Angela Vargas.  If you’re fifty five or older and live in this area give them a call at 484-7000 x7557 to find out more about being a “golden age senior”.
