New Cheer Team for Ann Arbor

By Balinda Zimmerman

Special Forces All Star Elite is a new cheerleading team that will be based in Ann Arbor. Gym America located on Platt Rd in Ann Arbor is now renting practice space to Special Forces All Star Elite who is putting together competition cheer and dance teams with preparation clinics on April 6, 13 and 27 from 9:30-12:30AM.

Nicki Driscoll Wright is the owner of Special Forces and a cheerleading graduate of Tecumseh High School (2 yrs), Milan High School (2 yrs) and Eastern Michigan University (3 yrs). In addition to her own cheerleading skills set Nicki brings with her numerous local and national cheerleading connections with coaches, choreographers and other gym business owners.

Nicki has seen the need for a local cheer team since Michigan Extreme bought out the Wolverine team and closed the facility. Her own 9 yr old daughter, Jenna, has been attending Midwest Cheer in Toledo for 2 years but the distance and other issues made it difficult to continue cheering in Ohio.

When several other parents of cheerleaders with distant gyms and local schools began discussing the need for a new option in Michigan Nicki realized the time was right for her to step out and start her own dream team, Special Forces All Stars Elite.

Parents of Ashtyn Jones and Mikayla Helzerman had also been driving to Toledo, Ohio for a competitive cheer gym for their daughters. These parents and others are encouraged that a new team will be within reasonable driving distance and offering competitive challenges for their daughters to continue to grow and compete at national and international levels.

Nicki believes in the passion that cheerleaders exhibit in their hard work, dedication and commitment to being successful athletes. Her motto for the company is DREAM

D=Determined (need a determined mind to reach for your dream), R=Reward (the reward when you achieve the dream), E=Encouraging ( be encouraging to reach your dream together), A=Attitude (it takes a positive and inspirational attitude to see your dream come true), M=Motivating (motivate yourself and your teammates outside and inside of practice).

Special Forces is looking at 12 competitions in the next year while reaching for a Summit bid. Summit bids are obtained only by achieving the highest scores at competitions across the United States during cheerleading competition season from November to March of each year.
