Mardi Gras party raises $13,000 in aid

By Milan Eagle Media

Months of planning paid off as the Milan Rotary Club transformed the Tri-County Sportsman’s League into a Mardi Gras with a New Orleans flair on November 8.  President, Peter Kudlak welcomed everyone and there was a video presentation made by local Rotarians explaining what Rotary is and all the ways they support and give back, not only within the city and community, but internationally as well.

The  guests were dressed in various styles, bright colored costumes and masks.  Everyone was eager to eat but hopeful to be the last table called since it was “auctioned off” and the last table to get to eat won all the money…which they so graciously donated back to Rotary.

After a lovely dinner prepared by Tri-County checks were presented to the Milan Historical Society, Aid in Milan and Seniors for Healthy Living.

Interact students, Rotary for high school students, were on hand to help by selling beads for the games.  There was much laughter during the games, especially the “heads or tails” games.  Thank goodness there’s no age limit on having fun.

Many businesses and individuals donated silent and live auction items. Live auction items ranged from dinners with limo rides to cabin getaways, to sailboat trip and dinner to Red Wings and Detroit Lions tickets.  The big suspense of the evening was who would win the Vacation Getaway.  For only $50 a raffle ticket you got a 1 out of 50 chance for a trip valued at $1200.00.

The evening  came to a close with great music from the DJ, lots of smiles and laughter and the Rotary making over $13,000 to give back to help others.

If you are interested in finding out more about Rotary check or join them on any Tuesday at noon when they meet at Don Juan’s on Main Street.
