A brunch will Melissa Gilbert, a.k.a. Laura

Debbie Sudduth recently attended a reunion of sorts, when she met with Melissa Gilbert, the actress that played Laura on the TV series “Little House on the Prairie”, at a fundraiser for the Yatooma’s Foundation For The Kids on January 25.

Sudduth a big Laura fan, visited an uncle in California  when she was in the sixth grade.  Two neighbor girls played the character Carrie on the show, and they invited her to join them on the set. She met the entire cast including star Michael Landon and never forgot the experience.  “It was the best day of my life,” Sudduth said.

Now years later, she would be with her girlhood heroine once again at a  Meet & Eat event in Howell.   Sudduth attended with her husband Lacy and said they enjoyed the brunch.   Sudduth said it was a wonderful morning being able to talk to Gilbert and have her picture taken with the star.

Fifty percent of the proceeds from sales for a signed copy of Gilbert’s cook book, “Biscuits & Gravy” would go to the foundation.  The foundation  brings tenderness to tragedy and turns it into triumph for the families of kids who have lost a parent by providing practical, professional and personal assistance at each stage of the grieving and recovery process is their mission.

“Having lost my sweet father when I was only 11, I am so happy to help this organization,” Gilbert said in a written statement.

Sudduth was pleased she attended and said it was a sold-out event and everyone there was happy and excited to meet Gilbert. She further added Gilbert was just as nice as she appeared to be on TV. But then, Sudduth said when she met Nellie, she was nice too.
