Celebrating 10 strong years

By Milan Eagle Media

Ten years ago a story of vision and future developed out of the minds of three individuals that saw the possibility to help Milan forever and ever. Isabelle Schultz, Millard Phillips and Dan Harkness in February 2005 had that vision, and 10 years later the foundation is a reality that has benefited many institutions and individuals in the Milan area. With investment growing to more than $1,000,000 the foundation was able to disperse $229.000 to non-profits through the annual grant awards. In addition $79,000 was provided for scholarships to Milan students who are attending college.
About 200 people attended the Gala at Kensington Court in Ann Arbor Saturday February 21. The place was enhanced with delicate and elegant dresses of the dames, complemented with fashioned suits and jackets of the gents.
The attendees had a chance to enjoy wine and hors d’oeuvres while placing bids on the 77 silent auction items, from fitness memberships, golf packages, Italian purse, jewelry, art pieces and more.
After the social hour and silent auction the main floor was open and guest found their way to their tables. The guest Emcee for the night was Ashlee Baracy from Local 4 News Today. She was Miss Michigan in 2008 and was named a top-ten finalist in the 2009 Miss American Pageant.
Following a great dinner auctioneer Brad Neuhart, Neuhart Auctioneering LLC, a Milan based company took control of the room with the live auction. Brad gave some dynamic twists to the live auction, using good doses of humor. Twelve items from vacation packets to patio dinners and sailing events constituted a profitable live auction of $9000. At the end of the live auction opportunities to donate keep coming in ranging from $50 to $1000 with matching funds.
Live entertainment by Duo of David Chown & Miriam Pico was enjoyed, many danced along as David played the piano and Miriam sang, even the MHS National Honor Society Students that had been assisting and taking care of coat check stepped out on the dance floor for a couple of the numbers.
At the closing of this edition the 10 Year Anniversary Gala brought to the GMACF about $40,000 that without doubt will be directed to benefit the community.
