Vickie Dillard honored graduating senior, Dana Sowards, with a $1,500 scholarship at Class Night held on May 28 at the Milan High School.  Dillard said she was honored to be chosen to present Sowards with the award.
The scholarship was compliments of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion and members of the Milan American Legion Earl Gladfelter Post 268.
Each year the auxiliary chooses a student to support.  Sowards will use the funds to first enroll at Washtenaw Community College to complete basic studies and become a licensed and certified nurses aide, so she can secure employment to continue her education at Eastern Michigan University.
Her goal at EMU is to become an instrumental music teacher. Sowards has played in the Milan schools’ bands since sixth-grade.
Winning the scholarship, she said, came as a total shock, “I was like, how did I win this scholarship when so many people submitted apps?”.
