Hard work of volunteers really paid off at the 2 day family Milan Summerfest July 31 and August 1. The weather was perfect, the crowds were great. Friday night’s band, Your Generation In Concert featuring 50 AMP FUSE “packed the house” in and around the beer tent.. Saturday started early with the IHA 5K which had 130 registered runners/walkers. Next on the schedule was the Rotary Club pancake breakfast they had a non-stop line on Main St. in front of Son Juan’s. Ruth Florian celebrated her 91st birthday playing Carnival Bingo. There were about 15 Tin Can Tourists camping across the bridge. Five year old Brian Shaffer, along with many others had their faces painted. Marking their 19th year, the Backstreet Cruizers Car Show had 158 shiny vehicles proudly on display. Three hundred Rubber Duck tickets sold much faster than the ducks floated down the river since most went to the right and got stuck near the shore as the crowd waited for the 3 winners. Several food vendors and the Ice Cream Social & Bake Sale provided a variety of good food, “walking tacos” seemed to be big hit and other arts and crafts were available for shoppers. Winding down the afternoon was the Corn Hole Tournament followed by music by the Magic Bus, giving a tribute to Woodstock. Many donated to make this all possible but a special thank you goes out to the 3 Platinum Sponsors, American I Credit Union, Re-Elect Mayor Michael Armitage and Team Milan, their donations were directed toward the expense of the entire event.
