Frances Catherine (Risch) Markgraff is celebrating her 104th birthday. She was born on November 25, 1911 in Milan, MI to Samuel and Barbara (Hartman) Risch. Frances and her family moved to Maybee, MI in 1919, when she was a child. Frances had five brothers; Albert, Sylvester, Leonard, Charles, and Raymond. Frances spent most of her formative years in Maybee. She went to St. Joseph’s Catholic school for eight years. On May 10, 1932, Frances married Dennis Markgraff. They had four children Marvin (Shirley), Robert (Christine), Mary Ann (Marvin Bondie), and Dorothy (DeanLietzau). Frances has nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren. Sadly, she lost a grandson, great grandson and great great grandson as babies or a young adult.
Frances’ life always revolved around her family. As a young girl she took care of her younger brothers due to her mother’s illness. It was clear to everyone just how much all of her brothers thought of Frances.
Frances is very involved in all of her grandchildren’s lives. She has always loved caring for others and considers it her greatest legacy. All of the generations of her family have been impacted by her work ethic, determination, and unconditional love.
Frances loves to sew and crochet. She is an excellent cook. The family has always looked forward to her homemade fruitcakes each Christmas.
Frances has seen many changes in her lifetime. She is most amazed by all that a cell phone can do. She has witnessed the beginning of radio, airplane travel, television, and computers. Frances has also seen a lot of changes in the field of medicine.
