Age 78, died Sunday morning, July 17, 2016 unexpectedly at home. He was born July 30, 1937 in Ann Arbor, Michigan to James R. and Marion (Mills) Sampson. On November 8, 1958 he married Marilyne Gillespie in Ypsilanti and she survives. Robert was a 1955 proud graduate of Lincoln High School and then joined the Army in 1956 where he served with the 101 Airborne Paratroopers.
He was called back a second time to serve our country during the Berlin Crisis. Bob retired in 1991 as a supervisor from the Ypsilanti State Regional Hospital after 35 years of service. He was an active member of the American Legion in Saline and enjoyed playing golf. Bob loved being with his family and was a practical jokester, he could always light up a room and make anyone laugh with his humor and witty personality.
Besides his wife Marilyne, he is survived by a daughter Carol Burch of Indiana, five grandchildren: Shad (Cerissa) Sperle, Jason (Christina) Sperle, Brian (Joy) Nickert, Kerrin Sampson and Andrew Gregor, seven great-grandchildren and a sister Pat (Eric) Pogany.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and then his two daughters Connie Nickert, Tammy Sperle and a sister Marlene Hicks all in 1996.
Funeral services were held Thursday, July 21st. Military Honors will follow under the auspices of the Washtenaw County Honor Guard.
