Fire prevention week

By Milan Eagle Media

Milan Area Fire Department at 45 Wabash St .welcomed everyone into their house October 10, 2016. The annual event, which took place during Fire Prevention Week October 9-15, gives kids young and old a chance to see their equipment and apparatus that they use on a daily basis and ask the firefighters any questions they might need answers for.
The firemen demonstrated cutting apart a car with jaws of life, a hydraulic tool used by emergency personnel, should the need arise to free someone. There were fire hoses with strong surges of water for the little ones to experience putting out a fire in a burning building. People gathered out back and anxiously awaited the arrival of the U of M Survival flight helicopter (which provides life-saving transportation) and hurried toward the field to get a closer look or sit inside Coloring books, and plenty of red fire hats and donated pizza from Hungry Howie’s and Marcos Pizza was on hand.
Replacement of your smoke alarms every 10 years is recommended. Check the manufacture date on the back to see how old your smoke alarm is.
Firefighters from Milan Area Fire Department went to Paddock School on October 11, teaching fire prevention to students and staff. They have a real passion to teach safety, because in 2001 three young brothers perished in a house fire because they didn’t know how to get out.
