When Julia Shafer, from Muddy Paws at 31 Tolan St. heard about the needs of the owned and misplaced animals being cared for at the Sevier Co. Humane Society due to the tragic fire in Gatlinburg she knew she had to help. After texting a friend in the area she learned they had set up a holding facility and temporary animal shelter at the fairgrounds because the shelter itself had to be evacuated due to the fire.
They are still finding dogs roaming around; plus they’ve had people from all over, even New York, come to adopt dogs. Monetary donations and items such as leashes, collars, dog and cat food, kitty litter, toys, dog and cat bowls, horse feed, carriers and such are needed.
Julia started contacting people, she sent up drop boxes at Muddy Paws, ACE Hardware in Milan and Heritage Animal Hospital in Dundee. Last Day Dog Rescue in Livonia and Milan Physical Therapy also committed to collecting items for furry friends as well as toys for kids and household goods.
After gathering all of the donations, Friday, December 30, Julia headed out with her dog driving to Sevier County Fairgrounds near Knoxville, TN to personally deliver the needed items to families and their pets.
