Female Athlete of the Month: Tiger Jackson
By Balinda Zimmerman
Tiger Jackson is an only child born in Lansing, Michigan to Paris and Jeremiah Jackson.
The family moved to Ypsilanti when Tiger was in 5th grade. Before attending Milan High School Tiger was a student at South Arbor Charter Academy.
Paris is an MRI technician at U of M Hospital and Jeremiah is a prior teacher turned public service employee. Tiger would like to take her love of math and use it as a career in civil engineering.
As an only child Tiger recently had to adjust to sharing space with a cousin who is close in age that came from Lansing and moved in with the family. She shared that she does enjoy having someone else around but her cousin has chosen to attend Lincoln School system.
She has been a captain on the MHS cheer team for three years and also plays tennis. When asked about her hobbies she explained that her sports she so loves are really her only hobbies. She has played tennis for the past two years and as a freshman and sophomore she was a member of the track team running the 100m, 200m and participating in the high jump.
Tiger is a scholar athlete with a current GPA of 3.6 studying AP Physics, Engineering, AP Statistics, Spanish IV and the Senior Wing robotics program. She plans to attend Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana where she has already visited and been looked at for a cheerleading position. She has been offered a scholarship through Tri-State and is only waiting to hear from a couple other options before accepting and registering.
She is part of the MHS robotics team where she contributes her fundraising abilities to help raise the $20,000.00 needed for the build. The robotics team for 2016-17 is the first team to have a physical presence on social media. Thanks to Tiger and her forward thinking, the team now has accounts on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snap Chat where they can share accomplishments and help with the fundraising efforts. She shared her excitement that the local Chevrolet business here in Milan has emphasized that they would like to be a part of the donation team required to fund the robot creation.
It sounds as though Tiger has a pretty solid plan and is already implementing steps toward being the civil engineer she wishes to be upon college graduation.
