Male Athlete of the Month: Kyle Briggs
By Balinda Zimmerman
Kyle Briggs was born in January,1999 in Ypsilanti, Michigan to Sheila and Jeff Briggs. Kyle is one of 6 children from a combined family that he shares is more like siblings than step-anything. He has three brothers, Christian (16), Keith (21) and Tad (25), and then there are two sisters (Cherokee (20), and Cheyenne (22).
Kyle’s father Jeff is an Entrepreneur with a small farm business, and a few other businesses in addition to being a Volunteer fire fighter for Augusta Township. His mother, Sheila, has a very interesting position with the V.A. office where she reviews Veteran Care procedures and lab results to determine what additional procedures might be required for Cardiology needs of veterans of the US armed forces.
Kyle is a dual MHS athlete of soccer and basketball in addition to having participated in several other sports prior to his current sports. He began with swimming at age 3 and continued through age 13, baseball from ages 5 to 10, and football from around age 8 through youth league years and into high school. As a freshman on the MHS football team he received a pretty bad concussion and a meniscus knee injury simultaneously and his parents and he decided he should not continue with football. This was when he switched to soccer. With a chuckle, he explained that as a goalie on the soccer teams he probably takes more shots to the head than he did in football. He shared his numerous broken bones since beginning soccer and he has definitely has his share of broken bones.
He is currently on the travel soccer team of Liverpool, a Midwest Regional League and one of the top teams in the region according to Kyle. He has worked very hard to be a part of such a great team.
Kyle is a team member of C-Span creating a documentary on the biggest issues surrounding the President of the US, Congress and issues that need to be addressed from those offices. Team members are Kyle, Haley Rhode, and Kyle Ranson, The three share responsibilities so that they all are learning different skills and talents while working on the project. One day Kyle might be filming and another day he may be editing or any number of things.
Kyle has applied to three colleges thus far and is waiting to hear back on scholarship offers. He would like to stay close to home so he wouldn’t be so far away in case anything happens to either of his grandparents and yet far enough away that family won’t be dropping in every day. He has looked at Defiance, Findlay and Adrian to begin with and may yet apply to others.
Kyle would like to study business and law while still playing soccer in college. His dream situation would be 2 years in a smaller college and then grad school at a D1 school such as University of Michigan. He would like to go from there to Law school for his degree in law while working to become a sports agent.
