Big Reds win Huron League

Milan Boys Track and Field took the Huron League Championship for the second year in a row finishing the meet with a team score of 153, a solid 24 points over their closest competitor, Gross Ile who posted a score of 129. The Big Reds are now preparing for State in several events.
Michael Furtney had already qualified to represent the Big Reds at State in the shot put (50’10.75”) prior to taking first place with a distance of 49’6” in the Huron League Meet. Furtney has posted some of the top scores in discus this season as well, (PR 124’06”) taking third place in the Huron Meet with a 118’3” distance. Gabe Aceves posted a personal record of 108’3” and took 7th place in discus and Ben Pile posted a personal record in the shot put with a 89’ 08” distance.
The Milan team took first and second in long jump with Demetrius Barnes jumping a 20’6” and Tyler Hall with a distance of 20’1”, a personal best. The team also did a clean sweep of the top three spots in Boys High Jump at the Huron League meet beginning with Kenari Moore with a personal best and top score jump of 6’ 5” followed by Jarius Hamilton in second place with a of 6’3” jump and Tristan Hines with a 6’2” jump.
Other notable scores for Milan in the Huron League Meet were the first place spot for the 4×100 relay team of Jacob Rose, Jakob Walther, Kenari Moore and Demetrius Barnes. Jordan Young posted second place in the 110m and the 300m hurdles behind Carleton Airport’s Jack Gomez.
Although Milan did not take the tops spots in races there were some personal records posted by the following runners: Jakob Walther-100m (11.76), Adam Rowland-100m (11.89), Joe Szabo-200m (23.72), Tyler Hall-200m(23.91), Blaine Davis-400m (53.01) Joel Hill-400m (56.86), Bill Kurtz-800m (2:04:23), Dustin Dapprich-800m (2:15:58), John Bowerman-1600m (5:16:00), Zachary Smith-1600m (5:25:72), Dustin Dapprich-3200m (11:01:73), John Bowerman-3200m (11:18:12), Chris Weston-100m hurdles (17:50).
Representing Milan at the State Track and Field Events will be Michael Furtney-SHOT PUT, Demetrius Barnes-LONG JUMP, and Kenari Moore, Jarius Hamilton and Tristan Hines-HIGH JUMP.
