La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant and Cantina is Supreme

By Janet Buccirosso

La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant and Cantina has two locations. The Dundee restaurant is located at 102 Tecumseh Street across from the triangle downtown. The other restaurant is located at 11191 S. Telegraph Road in Erie, Michigan.
I met with Michael Lynch, Manager of the Dundee location. Mike also happens to be the son of Lupe Harpster, an owner of the restaurants. The Erie location is actually the original La Fiesta which was purchased in 1983 by his grandparents. Lupe has worked in both restaurants and runs the operations for them, which employ approximately 45-50 people.
When the decision was made to expand and open a second restaurant Dundee was chosen because it is a great town and was beginning to open up. Cabela’s had opened a few years before and the engine plant had just opened. On June 1, 2008, the doors opened on the Dundee location.
Mike states that their best seller is the burrito supreme and the best meal is their Mexican Plate which consists of beef or pork with gravy, beans and cheese and a taco. They offer a daily lunch special Monday through Friday which consists of soup or salad, one entrée item and one side. They also offer daily drink specials Monday through Thursday. The restaurant offers catering services as well as areas for rehearsal dinners, showers, reunions, etc.
Mike lives in Monroe and has two sons; 16 year old Christian and Benjamin who is 3½ years old. He also owns a dog, Inara.
