Age 79, died Monday evening June 12, 2017 at Arbor Hospice in Saline, Michigan surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 9, 1938 in Sewanee, Tennessee to William and Edna (Cherry) Yates. She was a loving and devoted mother who was loved by all. Erma Sue moved to Milan from Tennessee at a young age. She graduated from Milan High School in 1958. On October 27, 1962 she married John C. Fromm at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Milan and he preceded her in death on July 23, 1987.
Erma Sue first worked in the surgical glove department at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, then in food service for the Ypsilanti State Regional Hospital, and eventually retiring in 2000 from housekeeping department at Walter Reuther State Hospital. Erma Sue was a long time member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the CWC. She was also a member of Milan Senior Citizens, Ypsilanti State Retirees Association, a former member of Milan Kiwanis Club and a former member of Women of the Moose in Milan. Erma Sue enjoyed dancing, bingo, crossword puzzles, going to the senior center, travelling, seeing the ocean and being around people. In her lifetime she visited all 50 states. She was outgoing and especially close with many friends, her family, extended family and most importantly her three sons Mark, Danny and Mike.
Survivors besides her three sons, Mark, Danny, and Michael, include her sister, Linda (Jim) Gilson of Milan, sisters-in-law, Margaret Yates of Ann Arbor, and Eva Fromm of Missouri, future daughter-in-law, Angela Hensley of Monroe, two godsons, Ben (Kim) Gilson and their two daughters, Justine and Caroline of Saline, Jeff (Melissa) Saren and their three sons, Jacob, Gabriel, and Noah of Clinton, special friends, Penny and John Turner and their family, Lupi Valdez, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and other close friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, parents, stepfather, Bob Redden, two brothers, Bobby (Joyce) Yates, Bill Yates, sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Jack Saren, several extended family members and many friends including her dear friend, T. A. Robinson.
Visitation will be held at Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan on Wednesday, June 14th and Thursday, June 15th from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm. where a rosary service will be led by the Knights of Columbus at 7:30pm on Thursday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am Friday, June 16th at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Milan, where she will lie in state from 10:00am until time of service and The Rev. Fr. Vincent VanDoan will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow at Marble Park Cemetery, Milan. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or to the Family.
