For the second consecutive season the Varsity Softball team defeated Chelsea in the District Championship game. The Big Reds drew Adrian in the first round, a team they had run ruled twice during the regular season. The game was tied through two innings 1-1 but 3 runs in the third for the Big Reds and 3 more in the fourth put the girls up 6, a lead they held through the 6th inning.  Adrian came back with a 4 run rally in the seventh to make things interesting but it was not enough. Makayla Maurer got the win and the Big Reds were back in the Championship Game taking on Chelsea.
This game was a hard fought for both teams.  In the 1st inning Sam Hill reached on a walk and Emily Mitchell singled on a bunt advancing Hill to third. Sam Maurer grounded out but scored Hill for the first lead of the game. Emily Raubuch took the circle for the Big Reds. Chelsea tied things up and the score would remain tied until the 7th inning. Haleigh Hines singled on a fly ball to right field. Emily Raubuch singled on a fly ball to right field advancing Hines to second. Alexis Aldrich reached on a walk loading up the bases for the Big Reds. Hill singled and scored Hines. Chelsea made a last ditch effort to even the score with runners on the corners and one out but a pop out to Hill at short and a fly out to Center Fielder Chelsea Duffiney would seal the win for Milan. Both Pitchers had strong outings. Peighton Root held the Big Reds to just 6 hits, 2 runs and struck out 5 for Chelsea. Emily Raubuch got the win for Milan tossing seven innings, surrendering 6 hits, 1 run and striking out 6. The Big Reds were on to Regionals where they defeated South Lyon East 2-1 in the first game and advancing to the Regional Championship game against Ida, a team they split with during the regular season. The Blue streaks jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and although Milan was able to add two runs in the fifth, the Blue Streaks offense proved to be too much for Milan ending in a final score of 10-4.
Milan held its end of the season banquet on Thursday, June 15th and had 6 girls recognized for athletic achievements.  Senior Emily Mitchell was named 1st Team All League. Junior Sam Hill was named 2nd Team All League, All District and All Region. Junior Maddie Davis was named 2nd Team All League, Junior Sam Maurer was named Honorable Mention All League, and All District.  Freshman Emily Raubuch, All District and Honorable Mention All Region. Senior Chloe Duffiney and Junior Clare Chie were named all District as well. This team was also recognized for having Academic Honors.  Coach Ashley Beal said “I think it’s incredible that all 5 seniors were recognized as All League Academic and of 15 eligible players, 14 were recognized as scholar athletes.” The team looks to return 12 girls next season.
