Press release

Milan High School chose another Student of the Month, Mikayla Farris, based on the criteria set forth by State Representative, Tim Walberg (R-Tipton).
Walberg designed the program to recognize students that demonstrate exceptional character, exemplary behavior, act as role models to peers, have effective study habits, participate in extracurricular activities, promote their communities and provide a standard for all to follow.
FFA assistant, Mary Hammer, said Farris is one such student, who when asked to do something or is working on a project for FFA would always say, “I can do that.”
Hammer, reported that Farris is a hard worker and a great volunteer that gets things done.  “You can always count on her, Hammer said.
Farris gave a Big Red Talk speech on ‘selflessness that surprised even Hammer, who said she was always thoughtful and kind to other students even taking one of the school’s special students under her wing making her one of the gang.
In her remarks, Farris said she knew several people who were selfless and always thought of others.  She wanted to be like them and do as they did.  Hammer said in her mind, Farris has already done that, “She is an outstanding young lady.”
Ninth-grade counselor, Mark Rodan, said the entire staff reviews the student’s record and nominates and selects on Walberg’s criteria.  He concurred that Farris fits the bill.
