Marilyn Alexander was a long time civic leader in Milan. A resident of Milan for almost 50 years, she enjoyed making a difference in the community and supporting community organizations.  She was honored with the Milan Area Chamber of Commerce Community Service award in 2013 and was President of the Friends of the Milan Public Library.  She also served as president of the Milan Woman’s Club for several years and helped the club recognize its 100th anniversary.  She died in December of 2015 and a memorial service will be held on September 20, at which time her cremains will be placed beside those of her husband, Richard W. Alexander, Lt. Col., USAF Ret., at Arlington National Cemetery. A representative from the library will be present at the service in recognition of Marilyn’s invaluable support of the library over many years.
Through a generous onation to the library, we will be featuring three special programs this fall and winter to honor Marilyn.
The first program will kick off with a Writer’s Workshop on October 12 (registration required). The workshop is titled “Telling Your Story” presented by Kevin Fitton, a widely published and award winning writer. The main theme of the workshop is to help people take an idea and turn it into a story. The workshop includes teaching and lots of opportunities to work on writing. Participants may also work on a project that they already have in process.
The second program will be an all family program in November. Details will be announced later.
The third program, in December, will feature a musical event for all ages.
The Library is profoundly grateful to Marilyn and her daughter Carol and son-in-law Kevin Carbary for their long term support and friendship as well as this generous donation in support of programming for our community.
