Julia Woelmer, has brought Big Red proud to a new level with her name being added to the list as semi-finalist in the National Merit Scholarship Competition for her high score on the preliminary SAT test.
The PSAT test consists of measuring critical reading ability, mathematics problem-solving ability, and writing ability.   The only one from Milan High School to score, Woelmer joins neighboring Ann Arbor Huron High School’s students, who are among the schools that claimed the most semi-finalists.
Woelmer said the principal, Aaron Shinn, stopped her in the hall to give her the news and offered congratulations for her excellent performance.
Woelmer is very active in school.  She is an honor student, plays the snare drum in the band and leads the drum line, is active in drama and choir, and she is the president of the Gay-Straight club.  Outside of school, she volunteers 20 hours per month to community events, as a member of the Milan Mayor’s Youth Council.
She is the daughter of Christine and Michael Woelmer of Milan.
