The Milan Big Reds Youth League (MBRYL), in recent years had been renting space at the middle school fields but the program voted to move back to Wilson Park for practical purposes. The park has pavilions, seating, field lighting, bathrooms available, and lastly parents can stroll downtown for a coffee during practices. Home games will continue at the MHS field on Saturdays.
The 2017 season saw the addition of twenty-eight new helmets, new home jerseys, thirty additional participants over last years total and a game day in THE BIG HOUSE scheduled on October 21, 2017. There are also additional cheerleaders, new cheer coaches, new stunting options and a season ending cheer competition at Lincoln Consolidated High School.
The October 21st games at U-M will be 10:00AM-Freshmen, 12:00 PM-Junior Varsity, and 2:00 PM-Varsity. The program is taking orders for shirts for “Battle at the Big House” that will be $15.00 – $20.00, long and short sleeved. You can go to the Facebook page or program website for more information or go to Wilson Park between 5:30-7:30 Monday-Thursday and talk to a board member.
There also raffle tickets for sale to defray the costs of playing at U-M and raise money for additional equipment next year. Prizes are: 1st-$1000.00, 2nd-$500.00, 3rd-$250.00, and 4th-$100.00.
Jason Blackburn said “with the changes this year there are early signs of vast improvements over last year. Parent participation this year has been much greater more folks taking on greater roles and there are new team moms to help with sharing information.” The board members have worked hard to make the program more productive and soon hope to be able to offer scholarships to those who are less fortunate or experiencing hardships but have children who want to participate in the program.
The Program is seeking additional sponsorships for the 2017 season. Sponsorships have come from American One Credit Union, Spirit Ford, U-M Skilled Trades Union, L & W Engineering, Digital Brewery, Don Juan’s, Do Pro Sports, and Diamond Setters. Program sponsorships begin at 100.00 and go all the way up to1000.00. If you would like to sponsor the MBRYL Program you can contact any board member or send a message through the Facebook page.
