Dundee School Board Recap

The Board expressed their pride in and recognized the “amazing artwork” completed by the Middle School 6th, 7th and 8th grade students under art teacher Bonnie Ritsema.
Ms. Jenny Dolezal, Dundee Elementary 1st grade teacher was the recipient of the first Staff Member of the Month for Dundee Schools award. She was introduced by Ms. Michelle Parling who nominated her and received the $50 award from Mr. Timothy Whitman representing the MEEMIC Leski Insurance Agency. The Board is excited and proud of this new program recognizing outstanding staff members.
 Since October is Bullying Awareness Month, the district is going all out in an effort to eliminate this behavior. They are encouraging students and staff to report any threats, physical or emotional, through the Okay2Say computer reporting system. The link to this system is https://ok2say.state.mi.us/. This is a confidential reporting system. The Board is asking everyone to join in taking a stand against bullying as well as intolerance, bias, and hate of any kind. The district’s Anti-Bullying Resolution can be obtained from the school.
The Board approved 32 FFA High School students to attend the National Convention in Indianapolis October 24th-27th upon the successful receipt of the application packet that follows Board of Education Guidelines. The students will be under the supervision of the FFA Teacher, Mr. Tom Stahl.
The annual 8th grade trip to Pioneer Scout Camp in May of 2018 has also been approved upon request of the Middle School Principal, Mr. Aaron Carner.
In addition, Bryan Schroeder, the HS Principal supported the annual Project Close Up wherein 11 High School students will be going to Washington, D.C. to participate supervised by Ms. Debbie Sontag-Cheema. This trip was approved by the Board.
The District Strategic Plan is moving forward with several of the Action Points already completed. The public is welcome to attend any of the meetings of various committees. Contact the Superintendent’s office for dates and times.
A new after-school club has been created at Dundee Middle School. The Board approved the new club, which will be co-ordinated by Ms. Jesse Spiegel, Ms. Nicole Bahny and Ms. Tara Richardson. The club will meet in Ms. Spiegel’s classroom after school on Tuesdays.
The resignations of Elementary Para Professional JoAnn Maseman and Maintenance Director Keith Pilbeam were accepted by the Board. Replacement efforts for Ms. Maseman are under way, and the position for Director of Maintenance has been posted, with a closing date of October 16th.
The Board went into Closed Session to discuss collective negotiations with the Dundee Education.
On Wednesday, November 1st, Superintendent Manuszak will hold his final Public Forum on the Bond Vote in the High School Cafetorium. Before the November 7th election, the district will have visited with all of the seven local municipalities to discuss this issue.
