Obituary: Cathryn Elizabeth Scriven


HUDSON CHAPEL – Cathryn Elizabeth Scriven
Cathryn Elizabeth Scriven, 60, of Whittaker, MI, died early Monday morning, October 30, 2017, at her home, surrounded by her loved ones while under the care of Great Lakes Caring Hospice. Born April 3, 1957, in Saline, she was the daughter of the late Jimmy and Sally (Streeter) Hatfield. She lived her early life in Saline and was a 1975 graduate of Saline High School.
She married Rick Scriven on March 17, 1995, in Ypsilanti, and he survives. Mormon by faith, Cathryn was a longtime member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Ypsilanti.
Cathryn loved her family and is remembered as a wonderful mother and loving caregiver. She loved being in the presence of her kids and grandkids in addition to her dogs. She enjoyed scrapbooking, travelling and camping with her family. Every Christmas season, Cathryn worked tirelessly baking thousands of cookies for her family and extended family to enjoy.
Surviving to mourn her loss in addition to her husband of 22 years, Rick, are her children, Russell Van Sickle of Adrian, James (Brandy) Van Sickle of Newport, Aaron (Erica) Van Sickle of Milan, Andrew (Tanya) Van Sickle of Jonesville, Victoria Van Sickle (and Paul Jones) of Redford, Jonathan (Tiffany) Van Sickle of Allen Park, and William Scriven of Whittaker; three step-children, Christopher Scriven of Woodhaven, Joanne Scriven of PA, and Andrea Scriven of Trenton; her sister, Mary Ann (Bruce) Wertenberger of Dundee; four brothers, David (Nicole) Hatfield of Pinkney, MI, Robert (Glenda) Hatfield of Cecil, OH, Steven Hatfield of Pittsford, and Donald (Denise) Hatfield of Saline; fourteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral service for Cathryn will be held on Friday, November 3, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson with Bishop Brad Caudill officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in Ransom Township, Hillsdale County, MI. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Thursday, from 4-8 p.m at the funeral home.
