Cupcake Wars!

By Milan Eagle media

Over 100 people joined the Milan Rotary Club on #GivingTuesday for Milan’s first ever Cupcake Wars.  Proceeds from the event support the club’s tenth annual Christmas Basket program. The Christmas Basket program provides much needed non-perishables, household, and personal hygiene items to deserving families in the Milan school District.  This year the club will distribute packages to 80 families provided by Aid in Milan.
Cupcake Wars pitted five local bakers against each other in three different categories; best tasting, best decorated, and best presentation.  The five bakers were Sharon Hawley, Andrea Renda, Olivia Salhaney, Traci Steinke, and Nicole Whaley.  The bakers arrived with six dozen mini cupcakes decorated and ready for tasting and voting.  From 5:30 p.m. – 6:15 p.m. with the crowd watching the bakers decorated 36 full size cupcakes and assembled their presentations.  Voting wrapped up at 6:30 p.m. for all three categories.  Taking home the hardware was Sharon Hawley for best tasting, Olivia Salhaney for best decorated, and Andrea Renda for best presentation.
The Milan Rotary Club would like to extend a special thanks to The Owl, Morning ‘til Night for providing the Cupcake Wars venue, the five bakers for giving generously of their time and talents, the club’s social hour committee for organizing the event, and especially the 100+ community members in attendance that made the event a huge success.
