Veteran of the Month: Jared J. Mullins

Jared’s parents are David & Tina Mullins and his grandparents are Lowell & Glenna Mullins and Jim & Sharon Gruden. The name Mullins is well known to the people of Milan. Jared’s grandfather, the late Lowell Mullins and his father, David Mullins established Mullins Auto Supply & Service on County in 1988. In 1996 they moved across street to the current location. Jared’s older brother, Joshua, resides in Bay City, MI.
Jared Mullins graduated from Milan High School in 2009. While attending Central Michigan University he was 4 years in ROTC program as a Cadet. He graduated from Central Michigan University in 2013 and September 7, 2013 he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Jared has been to Posts in Washington State, Georgia for Airborne School (received Airborne Wings), Kentucky and Oklahoma (Ft. Sill) for training as a Platoon Leader for Patriot Missile Battery. He is currently stationed out of Ft. Bragg, N.C.
Mullins deployed January 2015 in support of Operation Inherent Resolve in Southwest Asia. While deployed he was promoted 1st Lieutenant. January 2016 that deployment ended.
July 8, 2017, while home on leave, Mullins married Katelyn Staelgrave at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Milan, MI.
Shortly after, on July 19 Mullins was deployed back to Southwest Asia for Operation Inherent Resolve for a 9 month tour.
Mullins was promoted to Captain September 2017 and is currently serving in Southwest Asia.
Mullins feels it’s an honor to serve in the United States Army.
He states the military teaches discipline and responsibility. He said, “I have gotten to do things that most people won’t get to do in their lifetime.”
For young people considering the military, he said, “it is a positive experience for anyone looking to travel and if they are looking for a brotherhood built on camaraderie then the Army would be a great choice.”
