GMACF Dinner

By Milan Eagle media

Greater Milan Area Community Foundation (GMACF) held their 12th Annual Gala Fundraiser on March 3 at the Marriott at Eagle Crest. This years’ theme for the Dinner Auction was Saluto Milano. Tables were decorated with flowers and wine to be shared and Italian cheesecake, tiramisu and cannoli for tasty desserts.
As in the past years, the money raised will be invested into the endowed Milan Community Enrichment Fund and using the interest earned they return about $50,000 benefiting nearly all the Milan area nonprofit programs. GMACF President, Dr. Rachel Royal said at present they can only support about 40% of the community needs and she has a goal, over the next 4 years, to double the investment portfolio because then the interest earned could accommodate most of the community need.
Community Grants awarded in 2017 were: Clara’s Closet, Paddock Elementary School, Milan Beautification Commission, Books on Bikes, Symons Elementary School, Milan Area Historical Society, Bullycide Project, Milan High School, Moving Milan Forward, Milan Seniors for Healthy Living, Aid in Milan, Milan High School Robotics Team, Milan Children’s Preschool and Milan Community Youth Band.
There were 12 Scholarship Recipients in 2017 which equaled $15,100 awarded to MHS seniors.
Numerous wristbands were sold to those eager to participate in the Heads or Tails game. When it came down to 1 person standing, that person was a happy winner of a $500 Visa Card.
Gala Table Sponsors, Matching Gift Sponsors, many donors and supporters and the Gala Fundraiser Planning Committee helped make the evening great.
The Italian themed evening brought many old friends together and many new friendships were made. From raffles, to silent and live auctions, to an evening ending with entertainment provided by DJ Mike Brown and the Milan High School National Honor Society helping… it was a fast paced evening filled with laughter. Leaving, one could hear comments of how nice the event was but more than that one could hear comments of how much good the GMACF does for the Milan community!
For good. For ever.
