Making waves!

Stepping back into January, on the 23rd Milan defeated the undefeated team from Riverview. Coach Dan Heikka said, “We came out ready and performed right from the first event to take the 91-79 win. This was a team win as we had over 30 best times and splits on the night, unprecedented for this time of year.”
The meet started with a bang as Milan took first and third places in the Medley. Ben Stafford, Owen Kimbrell, Max Stafford and Brendan Baker, took the first spot while the B relay of Evan Kolar, Andrew Smith, Kaden Baker and Evan Duncan took 3rd.
The 50 saw Max Stafford win and take down the pool record held by former Milan standout, Dylan Shearer. Milan’s Max Stafford took first and Kaden Baker took second places in the 100 Fly.
Noah Salhaney too the 500 by a wide lead and the Milan 200 Free Relays took first and third spots. Coming in first were Brendan Baker, Evan Duncan,  Max Stafford and Yosue Gonzalez while the third place team was Ley, Kolar, Salhaney and Mercieca.
Heikka said, “The 100 Breast saw Owen Kimbrell take the vent and make the state cut, followed by Evan Kolar in 2nd…The theme for us tonight really was TEAM. Our boys showed up and swam with passion for each other and for their team.”
On January 16 Milan took Chelsea by 122-61 following the January 9th in against Dundee at also 122-61
February was also a good month for the team coming up against Lincoln, Tecumseh, and Riverview. On February 7, 2018, the Big Reds celebrated Senior Night recognizing the three seniors for this year, Max Stafford, Brendan Baker, and Evan Duncan, while taking the win at home with a score of 127-53.
Max Stafford stood out for Milan as part of 4 wins leading off the with the Medley and 400 Free relays that won, as well as taking the 200IM and 500 free events. Milan took both first and second places in the 100 Fly with Max Stafford and Kaden Baker.  Brendan Baker was all part of three winning relays, as well as winning the 100 Butterfly. Evan Duncan was part of the 200 and 400 Free relay wins as well as taking first in the 50 free.
The Lincoln meet, on Feb. 13, 2018, was taken by Milan with a score of 112-70 and seven first place spots. Winners were Max Stafford – 1st Place 50 and 100 Fly, Evan Kolar – 1st place in 200IM, Ben Stafford-1st place in 100 Backstroke, Owen Kimbrell- 1st in 100 Breast, Nathan Ley- 1st in Diving, E. Kolar, O. Kimbrell, M. Stafford and E. Duncan-1st in Medley Relay and B. Baker, E. Duncan, M. Stafford and J. Mercieca – 1st in 200 Free Relay.
Milan has completed their swim and dive season as of this writing, with the exception of the SMISL Championships. The Big Reds had a very good season in the water, finishing with a season record of 8 and 1, losing only to D2 Dexter who is ranked number two in their Division according to Coach Dan Heikka.
