Milan High School senior, Brenden Baker, became a member of the track and swim team as a middle schooler leading him into his lifelong love of sports.
Baker was raised in Maybee until recently moving to Milan.  He has attended Milan Area Schools from kindergarten through his senior year, following the Milan legacy of his mother and grandparents.
He claimed, “Sports have always been a big part of his life”.  Baker has kept a busy schedule between running and swimming all four years of high school.  He even tried out long distance running on the cross-country team his freshman year. Along the way he has earned many outstanding titles, including helping his track team win two league championships in a row, running the 200 meter dash and hurdling.
In the five years that he has been swimming, he has made it to the state meet every year, and his team has never lost a Huron League Championship.  Baker mainly swims fly on the medley relay, the 200 free relay, 50 free and 100 fly. His favorite part of being on the swim team is the sense of brotherhood he feels each season.  Baker said how supportive his teammates are to each other.
Outside of athletics, Baker is a hardworking student and employee. He has been working at Zilke Vegetable Farm for two years. Baker’s academic success has been recognized with multiple different academic honors.   In 2016, he was named Academic All State for the 200 free relay, and this year he was on the All Academic Huron League First Team.
Baker plans on continuing his track career at Adrian College while studying exercise science and athletic training.  With the program he is entering, he will be on track to receive his master’s degree in five years, he said.
Brenden Baker, son of Paul and Karla Baker, has a bright future ahead of him athletically, academically and professionally. His reputation for hard work and determination should assure that he will succeed in all of his future endeavours.
