Male Athlete of the Month: Jake Isaacs

By Mary Racette

Milan High School Senior, Jake Isaacs, is a school of choice student from Belleville and May’s Male Athlete of the Month.  As a varsity baseball and soccer player, Isaacs has pursued his passion for sports, which started at a young age when he began playing baseball at age six, and soccer at age twelve.
Isaacs loved baseball the moment he began, and his love of the game continues to this day.  He is currently competing in his last high school season as a right fielder on the varsity team.  Throwing back to his sophomore year, Isaacs proudly recalls when he got a batting average of 1000 at Comerica Park against Detroit Country Day School.  Along with his commitment to the sport on the field, Isaacs is also an asset to the team as a leader. His coach, Adam Gillis called him a “quiet leader” and highlighted his selfless attitude by saying he is, “always willing to do whatever is best for the good of the team.”
Isaacs played soccer all four years of high school, making the varsity team his junior and senior year.  Since he started playing, Isaacs proved himself on the soccer field as an all-round player, switching between defense, midfield and striker.  He said his favorite position to play is striker.
Outside of soccer and baseball, Isaacs was also on the Freshman and JV basketball teams his first two years of high school.
Boasting a 3.8 GPA and a spot as one of the top twenty five graduates in his class, Isaacs has applied his love for math into his schoolwork.  He has completed four AP courses throughout high school. Isaacs’ AP Statistics and AP Calculus teacher, Jeff Davis, described Isaacs as an “excellent student” because of his hardwork in the classroom.
Isaacs claims that he has wanted to be a civil engineer since he was nine years old.  In pursuit of his childhood dream, Isaacs will be studying civil engineering at the University of Toledo next year.
