The Milan Adult Community Education Commencement was held on May 24 and 21 graduates turned that tassel from right to left with pride, while family and friends looked on.
The graduates entered the gymnasium to “Pomp and Circumstance” provided by 2017 Milan High School graduate and pianist, Haley Buczkowski.   Coordinator Connie Cox welcomed attendees.
Student Advisor, Sue Crysler, introduced the class of 2018 and had told them to give themselves a hand.  Attendees joined in the applause.  Presentation of awards were given by Cox and Janet McGovern, on behalf of the Greater Milan Area Foundation, presented a $350 scholarship to Kolette Comstock.
Class Valedictorian, Elizabeth Solari, addressed her classmates, teachers and those in attendance.
Keynote speaker, Schools Superintendent, Bryan Girbach, gave congratulatory remarks.  He praised the graduates for receiving their diplomas, which he pointed out were the same as those that are given to students attending regular daytime classes.
He said, they should be proud to overcome whatever disrupted their course to graduation the conventional way.  Girbach praised them for taking the opportunity for a second chance and said by doing so, “many doors will open for you.”
Girbach extended congratulations and thanks to those in attendance that supported the graduates throughout their journey.
He was then joined by Crysler and Cox for the presentation of diplomas, flowers and a congratulatory handshake.
A reception was held following the ceremony for family and friends where beverages, pastries, cupcakes and a decorated cake was served.
