Best of North beats the best of South

By Balinda Zimmerman

The North beat the South in the Monroe County All-Star Football game on Friday June 15, 2018. Head Coach, Jesse Hoskins of Milan was quite proud of his team of hard working young men from Airport, New Boston Huron, Flat Rock, Jefferson, and SMCC. Seven seniors represented Milan in the game, playing various positions. Milan players on the roster were as follows: Justin Beck, Christian, Diaz, Colton Hawk, Joel Hill, Victor Knight, Brandon Lange, and Ben Pyle. One or two of the Milan players listed on the roster had other commitments and were unable to play the All-Star game as scheduled.
During the game players end up playing positions they may never have played before due to the limited amount of players from each school. Because of this possible weakness, on both teams, it makes for quite a challenging game. One team may have two or three quarterbacks and no running back. As was the case with the South team this year; they had no punt kicker with previous experience but Vince Letellier stepped up and performed admirably for his team.
Coach Hoskins knew the strengths of his own players from Milan (3 Wide Receivers and 2 Defensive Ends) and utilized them to the fullest. All the while he was tapping into the strengths brought to the team by the likes of Mike Foor (Airport-RB), Tanner Jeska (Airport-QB), Jacob Dotson (Flat Rock-QB), Collin Woolford (SMCC-S,DB,RB), A.J. Harbin (Flat Rock-WR), and Michael Strzelewicz (SMCC-CB,HB,WR) on the offensive team. Then when the North went on the offensive Milan linemen of Justin Beck and Christian Diaz along with the likes of Samuel Johnson (Airport DT,DE), Griffin Vuich (SMCC TE,WR,DE) and Mason Hamilton (Flat Rock DE) built a defensive wall that was  near impenetrable and forced game changing turnovers. The final score was 12-0 for Coach Hoskins and his North team.
