MHS June Student of the Month: Katie Kaiser

By Joyce Ervin

Milan High School selected senior Katie Kaiser as the Student of the Month for June. The designation is provided by Congressman Tim Walberg (R-Tipton) for students that demonstrate exceptional characteristics.
In order to be considered, the student must demonstrate exceptional character, display exemplary behavior, serving as a role model to peers, participate in extra-curricular activities, modeling effective study habits, and/or promoting the public good through community service, providing a distinguished standard for all to follow.
Support staff and counselor Mark Rodan said, “We nominate and have consensus based on Walberg’s criteria when selecting our students.”
Kaiser fits the bill with the endorsement of teacher and drama adviser, Courtney Jeffers, who said, “Katie puts one-hundred percent into everything she does.”
Jeffers said she is a very passionate and strong-willed individual.  She said Kaiser was a great asset to the theater department as a student director, stage manager and president of the Drama Club.
Kaiser volunteered to supervise sixth-grade Symons Elementary School students at their science camp.  Sixth-grade teacher, Elizabeth Smith, described her as, “a great counselor and role model.”
Kaiser graduated with her class of 2018 with a 3.728 GPA, was a member of the student council, played varsity tennis, was a member of the school’s bowling team and Captain of the Marching Band’s Flag Team.
She plans to attend Western State University in September and is the daughter of Amanda and David Kaiser.
