By Mary Racette

Travis York is an active member of the Milan youth community, through his dedication of being a student leader and a varsity athlete.  York has been a member of the high school soccer and track teams since his freshman year.
York was introduced to soccer at a young age, when he played through the Milan Youth League.  He said that he really enjoyed it so he decided to play in high school. York is a defender on the team and will play varsity this year.  He shares that one of his favorite parts of the season is the soccer camp the team goes to every fall for a weekend.
In seventh grade, York joined the track team which he will continue to compete on through his senior year.  He says he was influenced to join by his older brother who ran track and he wanted to stay in shape. York is a hurdler and sprinter, running the 110 meter and 300 meter hurdles and the 200 meter dash.
York is a member of several youth led organizations throughout the high school and community.  As a junior, he was elected the president of the Milan Youth Council and will hold office as a senior.  This year will also be his fifth year on the council. He is also the vice president of student council, which he has been a member of since his freshman year, and the president of drama club.
Along with being an athlete and a leader, York has also been an actor in school productions throughout middle school and high school.  He said that his favorite productions to be a part of are Once Upon a Mattress, The Butler Did It and I Love a Piano.
York has completed six AP classes and will be taking four AP classes this upcoming year, including AP Psychology which he is very interested in.  He hopes attend either Stanford or University of California, Berkeley and plans to major in either Psychology or education because he said “they are both interesting fields that I don’t know a lot about but I want to learn more”.
