Milan Youth League 10U clinches District 3 title

Congratulations to Milan Youth League 10U district softball team. On Saturday, July 21 in Jackson Michigan, the Milan Youth League 10U district team clinched the District 3 Championship title. The team is coached by Denise Knox, Josh Vance, and Tina Kilbarger.
On Wednesday, July 18, they played a tough team from Dexter. Pitcher Alexis White pitched 13 strike outs.  Behind her was a great defense. Second baseman, Lexi Knox, and First baseman, Virginia Hiekka, had several clean plays raking in the outs. On offense, Lily Kilbarger had a great hit and scored 2 runs. Cami Heath ran the bases aggressively and scored many times. And, Madison Lancaster had a huge triple to right field. At the end, Milan won 8-4!
On Thursday, July 19, they played another stellar team, Jackson Southwest. Jackson Southwest took off hot in the first inning scoring 3 runs. Inning by inning Milan fought hard at the plate. In the 4th inning, the game was tied 4-4. Milan’s bats got hot and with bases loaded, Virginia Hiekka hit a hard, line drive in the air hugging the first base line. It was an in the park grand slam home run! Then there was no turning back. Reese Rupert had a great catch in center field. Alexis White had another great game with 14 strike outs. Both Kaylin “Brownie” Brown and Alexis Vance scored helping the team win 9-4 and advancing to the championship game. 
On Saturday, July 21, they played Dexter again who fought their way back to the Championship game. Alexis White pitched another great game with 11 strikeouts. Catcher Cami Heath and 3rdBaseman Emily Bladen prevented a runner from scoring. On offense, Milan’s bats got steaming hot and they ran the bases aggressively. With runners on first and second, Sara Mitchell hit a double to the gap in the outfield scoring 2 RBIs and closing out the game to a 10-0 mercy in 4 innings.

Next up is the State Tournament in Jackson Michigan, July 27 through August 1.
