Maggie goes from Belle to Broadway

Maggie Rhodes was born and raised in Milan. She graduated from Milan High School in 2012 and you may remember her as Maggie Williams or Belle in Beauty and the Beast along with Josh Rhodes the Beast. Did you catch the last name? That’s right Belle and the Beast married after they finished college.
Maggie has done community theatre since she was 4 years old. She’s been in plays at the Croswell Opera House , the Ann Arbor Civic Theatre and others. She was in drama at Milan High School for 4 years. She loves physical exercise and played soccer, tennis and swam for the Big Reds.
Maggie’s passion is being an actor. She has been blessed with many talents, she dances, sings and acts. Attending Baldwin-Wallace University near Cleveland, OH was Maggie’s choice after graduation. Josh went to Spring Arbor University and studied Criminal Justice. Their junior year of college they became engaged and after both graduated they married in Michigan May 29, 2016. The wedding theme had a few hints of Beauty and the Beast and they honeymooned in Disney.
In February 2016, before college graduation and the wedding, Maggie had auditioned in England at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. The audition for masters (MFA in Acting) was very competitive and they only accept 11 people to the program. Now Maggie had been accepted and the newlyweds had a decision to make. September 2016 they moved to England, which would be their first home for 2 years.
Birmingham is the second largest city in the UK, they were away from family and friends and the expense of traveling back to the USA wasn’t in the budget for them. They love to camp, bike and hike so when they got break from studies and working they took advantage of traveling in Europe. Their first anniversary they traveled to Paris and over the 2 years they were in Europe they visited Ireland, Greece, Italy, Scotland, Spain, Amsterdam and Morocco. However, Maggie’s classes consumed a lot of time. Some days she was gone from 8 in the morning till 11 at night, depending on rehearsals. The 11 people in her program consisted of 7 Americans and 4 British and they studied together, acted together and encouraged each other.
Maggie was honored when they ask her to sing in Birmingham at a conference for the British American Council. She was also chosen to represent her school at the National Sondheim Singing Competition. In addition to her studies at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire she continued to work into her schedule her online job of teaching Chinese students English.
Recently Maggie’s hard work paid off and she graduated with her MFA. With mixed emotions Maggie and Josh left their new friends and “first home together” and returned to the USA. She said she is grateful for the time and the experiences she had in Europe. Referring to acting she said, “there are rules, responsibilities, it’s hard work but it’s fun. You have to love acting enough to fail at it. Work hard, take work seriously but not yourself – keep the joy –remember why you love – best job singing and acting”. In September she attended a workshop in New York City. She just signed with an manager at AAG Talent and plans to relocate to NY before the end of 2018. They will be joining friends in NY from undergrad and also friends from England. For now, Maggie and Josh are taking care of business things, preparing for their move and grateful to Zilkie’s for working with them while here.
Good luck to you Maggie, we’ll be watching, hoping to see you on stage or screen .
