Relay for Life Pizza Palooza a Big Success!

Press relesase

On May 3, the Relay for Life of Milan hosted its 3rd annual Pizza Palooza to kick off fundraising efforts for the 2019 season. It was a rousing success! Approximately 100 people and families attended and had tons of yummy pizzas from which to select. The Relay team is grateful to Aubree’s, Hungry Howie’s, Papa John’s, Little Caesar’s and Marco’s for the generous donations of pizza.. Votes were tallied at the end of the evening and in a very tight race, Aubree’s was declared the favorite for the third year in a row! This event raised almost $1000 to go to the American Cancer Society. A sincere thank you to all those who donated and participated.
The American Cancer Society will host the 2018 Relay For Life of Milan will be held on August 17 and 18, 2019 at Wilson Park in Milan. In 2018, the Milan Relay For Life raised over $50,000 for the American Cancer Society. To continue this successful fundraising effort, they need survivors to join in celebration of their hard-won battles and community members to attend and support those walking and running. We are also still welcoming teams and individuals who want to participate and create a world without cancer.
The American Cancer Society uses funds raised at Relay For Life to support important research but also provides support in many more personal ways. ACS programs such as Road to Recovery, which provides cost-free rides to and from chemo and radiation appointments for cancer patients, and lodging programs which make it possible for families who need to travel to get treatment with low- or no-cost accommodations when they are away from home, are just two examples of invaluable ways funds are used.
In honor of those who battle cancer 24 hours a day, Relay for Life team members typically take turns walking the track throughout the day and night. For those not walking, there is constant action to keep everyone busy. From entertainment, food and games to touching ceremonies and stories of inspiration, there is something for everyone at Relay For Life. At each event, we celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer through our Survivor’s Lap and survivor recognition. The strength of survivors inspires others to continue to fight. We also remember loved ones lost to the disease, and honor those who have survived and are currently battling the disease with our Luminaria Ceremony. At Relay, people who have walked alongside those battling cancer can grieve and find healing. Finally, we fight back against cancer because we want to put an end to the disease. Relay helps individuals make a commitment to save lives by taking up the fight.
