‘Fill the Boot’ a big success!

By Joyce Ervin

The Milan Area Fire Department firefighters braved the cold on an early Saturday morning in December and held their annual “Fill the Boot” fundraiser with proceeds going to Aid in Milan.
Spearheaded again this year by Capt. Frederick Evans the event was once again a big success with $3,760 being presented to help those in need enjoy a Merry Christmas. Executive director, Mackenzie Mace, visited the station and accepted the check for the charitable institution.
Evans said, “Thank you to the people of Milan that donated.”
The firefighters held a uniform boot out to drivers that passed them as they stood in intersections around the city.
Two popular spots were Wabash and Main Street and Dexter and the light at Arkona Rd.
A shiny black car stopped at the red light at Arkona, the window rolled down, a hand tossed money in the boot, the blonde-haired lady wearing dark sunglasses confirmed the donation was for Aid in Milan, the firefighter said, ‘thank you’ and then bystanders recognized Sara Ford.
