I don’t think there is a family that exists today, that cancer hasn’t touched one of its members, yet, according to a report by the CDC in December of 2019, heart disease kills more people per year, than cancer. What about our lives being touched by strokes, Alzheimer’s, dementia and diabetic issues?
Rarely a day goes by, that we don’t hear of someone else diagnosed with some terrible disease that is life threatening. I know my personal prayer list grows all the time, because of requests made by loved ones, or even the individual themselves, knowing they need prayer.
Let’s face it, the moment any of us is diagnosed with any disease, that disease becomes the enemy and we are quick to get to the doctor and accept any treatment possible. WHY? The answer is simple; we love life and we want to live.
As I was lying in bed this morning, (the day this column was written) I was praying for those prayer requests and as I was praying, the following thoughts were laid on my heart.
Why are we so concerned for the physical body, yet give so much less attention to the inner that will determine your destination once the body dies?
I stopped praying to think about this thought that wouldn’t leave. Then I said, “God, how true,
when we get a physical diagnosis we all run to the doctor and to the specialists for help, yet when we know we have resentment, bitterness, anger, lust, and all the other stuff that causes a cancer to our spirits, we tend to act as if it isn’t there.” Mark 2:17. Matthew 9:12
Oh, those of us who have met Christ in a personal way, know to run to Him and ask Him to help us rid of those spiritual diseases that are trying to destroy our souls, but for many in the world, they just go on living and practicing the very things that will chose their final destiny after death. They don’t realize that those inner struggles are the enemy trying to destroy the persons eternal life.
“He will judge everyone according to what they have done.  He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers. But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness.  There will be trouble and calamity for everyone who keeps on doing what is evil—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. But there will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. For God does not show favoritism.” Romans 2:6-11
“At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you. Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.” 2 Corinthians 6:2
Yes, when we get that diagnosis, we run to the doctor to get help; how much more important is your spiritual health? Run to the Great Physician today, because on that day, we need to be ready! Eternity Will Matter!
