By Balinda Zimmerman The fans in the stands on Sept. 25 at Lincoln Park saw a pretty action packed day as they were not only enjoying the game but interacting with the new Big Red mascot “Captain Big Red” during game play.  Captain Big Red encouraged fan participation and it may have paid off well for the boys. The Big Reds won two of their three games against Lincoln Park.  Milan Youth League has been playing as part of the Downriver League for the 2016 football season and have been seeing tough opponents with recent games against Southgate and Wyandotte over the past two weeks. The freshmen team won their game on Sept. 24 with a score of 14 -13 in the last seconds of the game when Lincoln Park was unable to make the last 20-yard run for their touchdown.  The Junior Varsity team won in overtime with a score of 19-13.  In the first play of overtime the opponents had the ball on the 10-yard line and fumbled. Milan recovered the ball and it was their time to shine.  Payton Jones was handed the ball and with the aid of Josh Stuebben blocking behind him was able to get the winning touchdown for the team and their first win of the year.  The Varsity team had some great plays and a few unbelievable twists and turns by Robert Hall as he turned, jumped over linemen and raced down the field for the goal line. Although the team gave it their all they were just 12 yards short of the touchdown that would bring about a second overtime game of the day. It was a disappointing loss for a team who played so well. Final score 24-18, Lincoln Park.
