Milan Board of Education accepts hawk as new school logo

The Milan Board of Education met on Jan. 9 and voted to accept the image of a hawk as the new schools’ logo. Members of the community, school staff and student representatives served on the logo committee and made their recommendations to the board.

In the response sent to the board, the committee expressed that the hawk image portrays strength and pride. It is also indigenous to the area. The committee also felt the logo would serve the schools’ various needs displaying Milan’s pride for school clubs and organizations, academics and athletics.

The logo committee will seek drawings from the community to make their final logo selection and present it to the board for approval by March or April. The hawk drawing will be professionally designed by a graphic artist based on the selected drawing.

The hawk will be used only as an image and will not be incorporated in the schools’ name. The name “Milan Big Reds” will be kept and the schools’ colors will remain red and black.
