Milan Boys 7th in State D3 Swim and Dive Championships

Ollie Smith, Milan junior broke the state record in the 50 Yard Freestyle during the preliminary, swimming a Division 3 record:20.92  at Eastern Michigan University.  He continued to excel the next day, March 9, claiming the State Championship in the 50 Yard Freestyle and took 5th in the 100 Yard Freestyle at the MHSAA Division 3 Swimming and Diving Championship.

The natatorium was filled with enthusiastic swimmers and divers, coaches and fans.   Everyone was cheering and displaying support and encouragement, a great atmosphere for competition.  Most have been training all year for this day and it’s a great way to celebrate the end of a season!

Milan Big Reds boys swimming and diving team started the year unranked and had moved into rankings at mid-year at 10th.  Today they finished their year with a 7th place in the state.

400 Yard Freestyle Relay was 8th: Schettenhelm, Smith, Kimbrell and Brown

Coach Dan Heikka said: “We had a great season and great state meet. We really maximized our potential and swam and dove great this whole season. We peaked at the correct time and finished with tremendous performances at the end of the year. I was happy to see David Brown, Colby Williams and and Chris Fenrich our three seniors and captain finish the way they did, with all getting medals. We return much of our talented team and we will be looking to have a tremendous year next year.”
