Police report: Homicide Investigation

Homicide Investigation

At approximately 9:10 p.m. on Thursday, December 19, 2013 the Milan Police Department Dispatch Center received a telephone call from a male subject stating he had just shot his son at their residence on West Miller Street in Milan.  Milan Police Officers, Milan Area Fire Department EMS personnel, and HVA medics were dispatched to the location.  While emergency personnel were enroute, the caller confirmed with Milan Dispatch that he had secured the gun inside the house and would be stepping outside.  Upon arrival, Milan Police Officers secured the 68 year old male resident without incident; he was waiting outside the home.  They entered the home where they located the 37 year old male victim.  He was pronounced deceased on the scene shortly thereafter as a result of a single gunshot wound.    The weapon believed involved in the case was recovered from inside the home.  The 68 year old suspect was placed under arrest and transported to the Milan Police Station.  He was later transported to the Washtenaw County Jail where he is currently being held.  No one was present in the home at the time of the incident other than the victim and suspect.    It appears the two had been involved in an argument just prior to the shooting. The case remains under investigation.

Milan Officers sought and obtained a search warrant for the residence.  Michigan State Police Evidence Technicians were requested and processed the scene.

Family members of the deceased have been notified.  He has been identified as Gregory Paul Olds, 37, from Milan, Michigan.  An autopsy in pending.

Milan Officers are working with the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office on the continuing investigation.   It is anticipated that the case will be reviewed this afternoon by the Prosecutor’s Office for appropriate charges, and that the suspect will be arraigned sometime on Saturday.
