Alexis Harvey’s eighth birthday was celebrated with an unusual twist.  In lieu of presents, Alexis asked for donations or money to purchase needed supplies for the Humane Society of Huron Valley.  The good work the society does touched her heart and spawned her support her stepmother Brandi Kelley said.

The family adopted a dog Alexis named Mason, one of 47 dogs taken to the facility, who had been rescued from a pet hoarder’s home in Milan last year. It was then that Alexis became interested in supporting the work the society does.

She began her quest to help by getting her Daisy Troop to donate the profits they earned from their Girl Scout cookie sales.  The girls generosity was rewarded with a tour of the facility.  Next, Alexis decided her birthday would make for a perfect fundraiser.

Her idea paid off. She delivered a large cart full  of items to the facility that included horse food, cat furniture, toys and towels.  She visited with the animals before being presented with a certificate of appreciation and a bracelet.  She will be featured on the HSHV “Kind Kids” website recognizing her efforts.

Alexis had so much fun, Kelley said, “She hopes to do it again next year.”
