Chamber holds award breakfast

By Milan Eagle Media

Milan Area Chamber of Commerce held their annual award breakfast December 12, 2014 at the Milan Senior Center.   Families, friends and community members were in attendance, not only to share a good breakfast but to encourage and congratulate those nominated for Business of the Year, Community Service  and Youth of the Year.

Business of the Year Nominees were Collins Center, Milan Dental Associates, Milan Kroger, Ochalek-Stark Funeral Homes, Real Estate One, Schultz Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Milan and Zilke Vegetable Farm.  Accepting the  2014 Business of the Year  for Duane  Schultz was Isabelle Schultz and their two sons Todd and Tyler.  Schultz Motors has been owned and operated by Duane since 1945 and continues to be a family business.

Community Service Nominees were Dave Baldwin, Sal Calabrese, Martha Churchill, Tom Dupuis, Daniel Fromm, David Hoskins, Edward J. Kolar, III, Gordon Parker, Judy Parker, Millard Phillips, Thom Publiski and Bonnie Tew.  So many excellent people to choose from, a difficult choice…but two rose above all the others.  Those two were Martha Churchill and Millard Phillips and they sat side by side for a photo opportunity and congratulated each other.

Four young ladies were nominated for Youth of the Year,  Abbie Moccio, Fawnnie Pamenan, Brittany Phillips and Marley Tucker.  Brittany Phillips, an outstanding junior at Milan High School who has a goal of pursuing a career in the medical field to help people the way others helped her as a child joins the three previous holders of the title Youth of the Year.

A quote from Majorie Moore “Volunteering is the ultimate exercise in democracy.  You vote in elections once a year, but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.”

Every nominee today believes in serving, in volunteering in making Milan the kind of community they want to live in.

Congratulations to all nominees, your time and work has not gone without notice and appreciation.
