Roaring 20s fundraiser

By Milan Eagle Media

The Roaring Twenties certainly was a lively time, especially November 7, 2015 when the Milan Rotary Club held its 7th annual fundraiser dinner auction at the Tri-County Sportsman’s League.
Rotary was founded in 1905. It’s friends, neighbors and community leaders working together with passion to solve challenges in the community and around the world. Their Four-Way test is: 1. Is it the TRUTH? 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? 3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all?
Many “dressed for the occasion” which took everyone back in time. The Milan High School jazz band provided dinner music, there was plenty of food, silent and live auctions to bid on, best costume contest, games, raffles, silly photos from the photo booth and a DJ that keep the music flowing and the dancers on the floor.
Normally people don’t want to be the last to eat but in this case they were happy and cheered – it paid if your table was drawn last because the table shared 50% of the money collected in the contest. Many tried to coordinate with “Heads or Tails”, some lost on the very first flip of the coin while others made better predictions and kept playing until there was 1 winner.
Keeping the spirit of serving Milan Rotary Club presented checks to Milan High School Band $500, Interact Club $500, Aid in Milan $1,000, Milan Seniors for Healthy Living $1,000 and American Heritage Girls $500. These are just a few of the local groups and projects that Milan Rotary Club helps in addition to numerous international projects.
Students from MHS Interact were on hand selling tickets for the various activities. Interact is a club for youth who want to connect with others and have fun while carrying out service projects and learning about the world. Interact clubs organize at least two service projects a year: one that benefits their community and one that encourages international understanding. While Interact clubs receive guidance from individual Rotary clubs, they govern and support themselves.
Many businesses and individuals sponsored and donated to make the night possible.
Thinking of joining a service organization or looking of ways to give back to your community? Maybe Milan Rotary Club is your answer.
