We at the Milan Eagle hope all in our community are doing well during this crisis. We will all get through this together. In order to keep people safe and distanced we did not produce a Milan Eagle newspaper for April. Further months have not been determined as we want to adhere to state guidelines and protect the community. Hansel & Gretel

By guest Nora Carichner

The Red Apple Opera Company presented “Hansel & Gretel” at Liberty School Theater January 15th and January 16th. The charming adaptation featured, high spirited siblings, dancing angels and a witch with an especially evil laugh. There were many engaging characters like gingerbread children, fairies, a sandman, an industrious broom maker and a quick-tempered yet remorseful mother. The debut production received generous help from numerous volunteers. Their talents ranged from making delicious rehearsal snacks to painting sets that looked good enough to eat! Next year The Red Apple Opera Company will premiere, “Second Nature” by Michigan composer, Susan Anderson.
Retired Saline choir teacher Norma Freeman and Woodland Meadows music teacher, Robert Cindric were the creative directors. Rebecca Groeb-Driskill was the Technical Director and Producer.
Note: Robert Cindric (who was a creative director of Hansel and Gretel with Norma Freedman) taught in Milan schools for something like 16 years before teaching in Saline. If Milan residents wish to participate in future children’s opera productions they can register through Saline Community Education.
