Soccer coach Craig MacMorland joined physical education students at Paddock and Symons Elementary Schools recently introducing them to the sport of soccer as a representative of the Milan Youth Soccer Club.
MacMorland said the club offers programs for children ages three through high school, and they teach to all level of players.  Programs are designated as developmental for younger players and travel soccer for more experienced, who want to work with a professional coach for practices and games.  Summer camps are in session the week of June 20 and August 1 at the fields on Sanford Road.
Developmental programs begin in April and run through the middle of June and a fall season is also offered. Registration is required before the end of February to avoid a late charge.  Try-outs for travel soccer will be held on June 18.
MacMorland said the club has a great program and is constantly growing, but new players are welcome.  As for his coaching style, he said, he has a huge focus on development for the kids as players and as people.  Invested in his players, MacMorland said, “A good attitude means more to me than someone scoring a goal.”
Speaking of MacMorland’s credentials, they are nothing but impressive.  He holds a bachelor’s degree in sports and exercise science and is completing a masters in sports coaching and performance analysis.  His certification awards are as long as your arm.
For the Milan club, his role will be head coach for their travel program, and he will act as a technical director.
Developmental programs, depending on age, range between $60 and $90.
